Expressing concern over the deteriorating law and order in the province, Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi on Friday said there was no government in place as innocent people were being killed everyday.
Talking to the Balochistan Media Action Committee at the Governor’s House, Magsi said the law and order in the province was deteriorating and that was why the Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered the federal government to take any and all kinds of action to improve it.
He said after reviewing the Supreme Court’s order he had advised the provincial government to file a review petition. “One should take action against the killers and establish the writ of the government instead of sitting like lame ducks.” He said although he rarely talked to the media, he had been advising the provincial government to take measures for the improvement of the law and order in Balochistan.
He said a meeting of the governor, the chief minister, the corps commander, chiefs of intelligence agencies and the inspector general of the Frontier Corps Balochistan was to be held on Friday, but could not be held due to absence of Chief Minister Aslam Raisani. The governor said as the Supreme Court usually took suo motu notice on every issue, it should take notice of the law and order in Quetta as well. He said when he used to be the chief minister, he requested Islamabad to grant funds for development, adding that now under the NFC Award, massive funds had been transferred to the Balochistan government and it should be used properly. He said he had decided to retire from electoral politics. However, he would continue to play the role in political groups in Balochistan. Magsi denied he had been offered the slot of care taker prime minister, saying he would have rejected had he been offered the position.
