Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Fazlur Rehman on Friday said that no one can dare to introduce a resolution in the parliament to launch a military offensive in North Waziristan Agency. Talking to reporters, Fazl said that Pakistan was not a strategic partner of any other country because the law and order of Pakistan was “our own problem,” hinting that there was external pressure for the operation. He claimed that while the media provides one-sided coverage to Malala Yousafzai, it continues to ignore Aafia Siddiqui, who has been languishing in a US jail for years.
“Innocent people including women and children are killed daily but no one turns up to take notice of the atrocities,” he said, while terming the coverage given to Malala as propaganda for the sake of vested interests. On the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) which was revived for the second time on Thursday, the party chief said that if the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) wishes to join the coalition, it should write an application for consideration. Referring to the Supreme Court’s verdict in the Asghar Khan petition, Fazl said that the Presidency should not have any political wing and should refrain from expelling or inducting anyone in the government setup.
