The secretary schools Punjab has directed the executive district officers (EDOs) of all the districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi district, to make sure cent percent attendance of the teachers in rural schools.
According to sources, taking notice of the excessive leaves of the headmasters, headmistresses and teachers in primary, middle, high and higher secondary rural schools of all districts of Punjab, the secretary issued a circular directing the EDOs to take strict action against the teachers taking unnecessary leaves.
The sources said that the teachers and heads of the rural schools often take leaves on the pretext of some meeting, sickness or examinations, as majority of them were residing in cities despite having appointments in rural areas. This situation severely affected the education of the rural students and majority of them failed in exams.
On the directives of the secretary schools, the EDOs have demanded the attendance record of the teachers appointed in the rural schools and decided to issue notices to the teachers with excessive leaves.
