At least five persons including a Frontier Constabulary (FC) man were killed on Thursday in the ongoing violence in the city. According to police sources, unknown gunmen killed an FC man, identified as Abdul Malik, in Qasba Colony. A passer-by was also killed in the incident. Tension prevailed in the area after the firing incident and the police and Rangers’ contingents were deployed to avoid further damage.
A young man, Owais, was killed in a firing incident that took place near Nazimabad Chowrangi.
In another firing incident, a man was killed in Surjani Town. On the other hand, police claimed to have apprehended a man allegedly involved in the murder of 14 people in the city.
Aashiq alias Bholo, a gang war member, was arrested by Mangho Pir Police after a brief shoot-out.
According to the police, weapons, including a Kalashnikov and a 9MM pistol, were recovered from the custody of the suspect.

Heroin worth Rs 60m and five men nabbed: Two kilogram of heroin worth at least Rs60 million was seized during a raid conducted late night by police in Qasim Khoso village of Sukkur. Sukkur city ASP Masood Ahmed Bangash led the raid into Mujahid Khoso’s hideout and arrested ten men. Police also confiscated three Kalashnikovs and hundreds of rounds of ammunition from the possession of those arrested. Cases were registered against five people including Mujahid Khoso, his brother Munawwar aka Munoo Khoso, Jawed Khoso, Altaf Khoso and Zulfiqar Khoso.
Work with open eyes and a heart: DIG: Sukkur zone Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Dr Ameer Shaikh, directed his subordinates to submit comprehensive security plans of their respective jurisdictions for provision of security to citizens during Eid ul Adha. The DIG said that in collaboration with the intelligence agencies, security for Mosques, Imambargahs, Eidgahs, markets and public places would be ensured.
Quran Khwani held for martyrs of Karasaz blast: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Hyderabad chapter held a memorial ceremony for those martyred on the eve of October 18, 2007 at Karsaz while guarding former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto as human shields.
Citizens, leaders and workers hailing from various political divides attended the Quran Khwani and Fateha held at PPP’s District Council building office. PPP’s district General Secretary Fayyaz Shah paid tribute to the former PM and praised and the commitment of the martyrs with PPP cause. He said that without the blood of PPP, democracy would never have had been restored in the country. He said that “PPP is bestowed with such spirit of bravery, courage and sacrifice that no power can ever finish us”. Amanullah Siyal and Aftab Ahmed Khanzada also spoke on the occasion.
Fire guts garment shops
Fire broke out in two garment shops located at Resham Bazaar on Thursday morning and reduced all the inventory of the respective shops to ashes.
Fire brigades put out the fire after two hours since it had lit and the cause of fire was agreed to be an electric short circuit. Fortunately no damage was caused to the families living in the residential apartments constructed on top of the burnt shops.
