Sindh budget 2011-12012 allocated Rs 100 for execution of development of Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) to provide better facilities to the workers in the province.
SESSI Director Nishat Zaidi addressing a gathering at Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) said that the allocated amount would be used for purchasing plots, constructions of dispensaries and Basic Health Units (BHU) in the interior of the province. She said that a 200-bed hospital in Site Area, construction of S.S. Madina Dispensary, Poly Clinic at ITC Landhi Circle, Surgical Complex at S.S. Landhi Hospital, extension of labour room at S.S. Landhi Hospital, extension of Admin Block at S.S. Landhi Hospital and construction of casualty complex with O.T. at S.S. KV SITE Hospital, would be completed.
Nishat said that SESSI was a service oriented organization which functioned for the welfare of laborers. She said that SESSI provided medical care and cash benefits to workers hailing from the lower economic strata of the society. She informed that more than 70 percent of SESSI finances were spent of provision of medical care.
All Karachi Industrial Alliance President Mian Zahid Hussain appreciated SESSI’s resolve for improving general health indicators. He called for effective coordination between the workers and ESSI.Chairman KATI, Mohammad Zubair Chhaya, He said that industrialists considered contributing to SESSI as a cost but they had to realize the positive externalities of their charities. He said that KATI would play its due role in creating awareness in the industry about SESSI facilities.
SESSI chairman Amjadullah Khan advised the industrialists to contribute funds to SESSI and EOBI as they benefitted the workers.
