PPP leader among 7 gunned down

A Pakistan People’s Party local leader was among seven gunned down in Karachi on Tuesday, officials said. According to local police, unknown armed men riding a bike opened fire at Sajjad Balti in North Karachi area within the remits of Shara-e-Norr Jehan and managed to flee.
Balti sustained five bullets and died on the spot. His body was taken to a government-run medical facility for autopsy.
However, the officials said the PPP leader was targeted by a 9mm pistol, the arm which is being used in most of the targeted killings in the city.
Earlier, four people were reported killed in the city violence. Two tortured dead bodies, packed in gunny bags, were found near Crown Cinema, Mauripur Road.
Another body was found from Bihar Colony last night. Police said the victims were kidnapped and later killed. A man was shot dead in unidentified gunmen’s firing in New Town.
IG directs security for journalists: In view of reports of threats to media outlets and journalists, Sindh IG Fiaz Ahmad Laghari has directed the police to take further effective and concrete security measures for the safety of journalists.
In view of this, the security has been placed on red alert for all reporters, cameramen, representative of all workers of electronic and print media offices and other local offices regarding this specific field respectively.
While giving direction to police, the IG said that instead of adopting a traditional attitude on intelligence reports every action should be taken and security must be beefed up. He directed that targeted operation and snap checking must be done to ensure the arrest of criminal elements.
8 killed in road accident : At least eight persons including women and children were killed and over 20 others injured in a road accident in Moro area here on Tuesday.
According to police sources, a Karachi-bound passenger bus coming from Sukkur overturned due to opening of tie-rod. As a result of accident, eight people, including three women and children, were killed on the spot while over 20 passengers sustained injuries.
The local people rushed to the scene and started rescue operation which was later joined by police and rescue personnel. The bodies and injured were shifted to Moro and Shahpur Jhanian hospitals.
13 Indian fishermen
arrested: Some 13 Indian fishermen were arrested on Tuesday after Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (MSA) held 12 fishing boats for illegally entering the country’s territorial waters.
According to the MSA officials, the fishermen were fishing 200 kilometers inside the Pakistani waters. The fishermen were handed over to the docks police station for further investigation, sources said.
Some 213 Indian fishermen have been arrested only this year, the sources added.

12 suicide bombers enter city

Twelve suicide bombers have entered different areas of Pakistan’s commercial hub Karachi. According to media reports, the crisis management cell of the Interior Ministry on Tuesday warned Sindh’s Home Ministry of suicide attacks and terror bids being planned by a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) faction. The Crisis Management Cell warned that a Taliban faction called al-Mansoor group was planning on attacking training camps of law enforcement agencies and sensitive installations. The Federal Interior Ministry wrote a letter to the Provincial Government to inform about the danger. Following this, Sindh’s Home Ministry put all concerned departments on high alert, directing them to strengthen surveillance.

  1. @aryanazlam, you are absolutely right what to do if the PPP is ruling the country. It appears that this government is obsessed with completing its five year term and is also equally obsessed with its disastrous policy of reconciliation. There are multiple factors involved in maintaining present anarchic situation but the 99 percent target killings and extortion is committed by MQM. As far as supine PPP continues to follow its cowardly policy peace will never return to Karachi and the dance of death by MQM will continue..
