Death anniversary of Pakistan’s first prime minister Khan Liaquat Ali Khan was marked here on Tuesday.
The members and office-bearers of the Quaid-i-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial Committee visited the mausoleum, participated in Quran Khawani, laid floral wreaths and offered Fateha.
Seminars and references were held across the country where speakers paid rich tributes to Khan Liaquat Ali Khan on his 61st death anniversary who struggled with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to get a separate homeland for the Muslims of sub-continent and later served as first prime minister at critical juncture.
It should be mentioned that Khan Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated on October 16, 1951, during a public meeting of the Muslim City League at Company Bagh (later named Liaquat Bagh after him) in Rawalpindi.
Upon his death, he was given the title of “Shaheed-e-Millat”, or “Martyr of the Nation”. He is buried at Mazar-e-Quaid compound in Karachi.
