Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States (US) Sherry Rehman has said the US understands that all the major decisions on internal and external issues are now being taken in parliament.
Talking to a private television channel, Sherry was of the view that when she took charge as ambassador in the US, many issues were suspended at the time due to the Salala attack but now the dialogue process had started between the two countries.
She claimed that the PPP government had strengthened its relations with other countries including Russia.
Sherry said Pakistan was the main stakeholder in maintaining peace in the region and Pakistan’s stance on Afghanistan issue was clear that stability in Pakistan was related to stability in Afghanistan.
She said it was necessary to be realised in the US that Pakistan was against the extremism and terrorism and fighting against terrorism in accordance with its agenda, resources and capacity. Responding to a question regarding the Malala incident, Sherry said the attack united the entire nation, adding that “we should change the thoughts of public through education, just military operation could not resolve the problem”. She said the entire nation condemned this un-Islamic act.
The Pakistan’s ambassador to the US said terrorists were in minority in Pakistan and wanted to impose their thinking in the country through bullet but all political parties and public of the country are united to overcome this national challenge.
To a yet another question, she said that “if the daughters of Pakistan are targeted for just to raise the voice for education then how we can not own this war against terror.”
Sherry said Pakistan sacrificed a lot as a frontline state in the war against terrorism. She said the mainstream society and the government had the same view that terrorism and extremism in the name of Islam should be condemned.
