The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) warned the general against fraudulent schemes launched by unscrupulous elements that fool the public into believing that they won cash prizes dominated in foreign currency. SBP took notice of the fact that members of the general public were being fed false information through telephone calls/web mail service/SMS/ informing them that they had won heavy cash prizes in foreign currency. A press statement issued by SBP said that “the fraudulent groups are providing fabricated application forms of Foreign Exchange Department and State Bank of Pakistan to carry out remittance facility on behalf of prospective beneficiaries”. The frauds also charge “initial clearance dues” from the public claiming that they are deposited with the Ministry of Finance. SBP declared that it had no connection with such schemes and advised the public to seek clarification when in doubt from SBP Exchange Policy Department, at I.I. Chundrigar Road, Karachi or at phone number 021-99212459 and Fax number 021-99212527.
