Investment in higher education continues to reap dividends. The Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) has decided to award the ‘ISESCO Prize in Science and Technology 2012’ to Pakistani academician, Prof Dr Tasawar Hayat.
He received this award in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of mathematics. His name has also been included in the list of “ISESCO Science & Technology Laureates”. The ISESCO prize consists of USD 5,000 and a certificate with major contributions of the prize winner mentioned on it. The prize will be presented to Dr Tasawar at a special ceremony during the 6th session of the Islamic Conference of ministers of higher education and scientific research, scheduled to be held on November 20 to 21st in Khartoum, Sudan.
In order to encourage talent and to reward distinctive work for the solution of scientific and technological problems of socio-economic importance, ISESCO awards prizes to Muslim scientists and technologists from its member states, every two years.
ISESCO Prizes are awarded in Basic Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics) for outstanding research contributions in these fields, and in technology for important innovative work.
Dr Tasawar who is a distinguished professor at the Department of Mathematics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, said that this honour was an outcome of reforms and initiative undertaken by HEC during the last ten years in the higher education sector of Pakistan.
Senior management at the Higher Education Commission Pakistan congratulated Dr Tasawar on this meritorious achievement.
The Head of ISESCO Centre for Promotion of Scientific Research (ICPSR), Wafaa El Alami, also congratulated him on this important achievement.
HEC has brought a number of revolutionary reforms in the higher education sector of Pakistan. Pakistani researchers have been facilitated in creating linkages with their counterparts in every leading university of academically advanced countries, including US, UK, China, Germany, France, Australia and Korea.
In addition, more than 5,000 Pakistani scholars have been facilitated to present research work in leading conferences around the world.
