New religious alliance on the cards to counter MMA

Religio-political parties have decided to form an alliance to counter the revival of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) formed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Dr Abdul Khair Zubair, Sajid Mir, Sajid Naqvi and Pir Abdul Rahim Naqashbandi without the Jamaat-e-Islami. The new alliance would consist of the JI, JUI-S, Jamaat-e-Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Pakistan Muslim League-Awami, Muslim League-Zia, JUI-Nazriyati and other smaller religious and political parties. Sources privy to the development said once the six-party alliance was formed, it would enter into negotiations with the PTI for seat adjustments in the next election.
The alliance is expected to take a formal shape after Eidul Azha. The sources said negotiations for the new alliance were held between Maulana Samiul Haq and Pir Mehfooz Mashhadi. They added that Difa-e-Pakistan Council would not be turned into an election alliance and another alliance outside the DPC, but consisting of parties in the council, would be formed.
