Dr Asim mulling to resign from Senate

Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain is considering resigning as a senator for holding dual nationality.
Reliable sources told Online on Monday that Dr Asim was seriously considering resigning in the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision against parliamentarians who held dual nationality. The SC had directed the Election commission of Pakistan to take action against all parliamentarians who held dual nationality.
Sources revealed that Dr Asim holds Canadian nationality and has decided to resign before any proceedings were started against him.
The secretary Election commission of Pakistan had clearly stated that dual nationality holders cannot be parliamentarians in Pakistan, while the Supreme Court has also directed secretaries to receive fresh declarations from parliamentarians, testifying that they did not hold dual nationality.
Dr Asim had been working as an honorary personal physician to the president since December 12, 2009 till date. He had been working as an advisor to the PM for Petroleum & Natural Resources and as chairman of the National Reconstruction Bureau as a federal minister from May, 2008 till November 26, 2009. He had also worked diligently on the Iran- Pakistan -Turkmenistan and Afghanistan (TAPI) project.
