USAID to continue support QESCO

A team of USAID officials led by Ms. Melissa Knight, USAID Energy Office Director met with board members and senior management of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) to discuss the ongoing projects of USAID for QESCO.
During the meeting, the projects undertaken by USAID Power Distribution Program for QESCO were also discussed. Muhammad Naseer Mengal, Advisor to Prime Minister and Chairman Board of Directors led QESCO team.
Board Members of QESCO thanked and greatly appreciated the assistance provided by USAID to QESCO under the USAID Power Distribution Program and expressed their wishes for strengthening cooperation between the USAID and QESCO on a range of projects including Power Factor Improvement Program, Communications and Outreach, Human Resources, Finance and capacity building and institutional development trainings for QESCO staff.
The USAID director of energy, Melissa Knight said that USAID would continue projects for DISCOs to help them in loss reductions and improve revenues. She appreciated the interest of QESCO Board members in resolving issues faced by QESCO.
The four and a half years USAID Power Distribution Program was announced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2009 as one of the U.S. efforts to support Pakistan Power Sector. Through this program, the U.S. Government provides support to Government of Pakistan to reform the power sector to mitigate the current energy crisis.
The program is helping government-owned electric power distribution companies (DISCOs) improve their commercial performance in reducing losses, increasing revenues, and improving customer services by introduction of new technology and improved work practices.
