After consultation with medical board on Monday, 14-year-old Malala Yousufzai was sent abroad for further treatment.
An ISPR spokesman has said that Malala Yousafzai is being sent abroad for treatment. The medical team treating Malala has been reviewing her progress at regular intervals and consulting with international experts, the spokesman said.
“The acute phase has been managed in accordance with international standards and the medical team is pleased with her present condition which has been described as optimal.
The view of the international experts was that the neurosurgery performed in Peshawar was right and indeed saved her life. The decision to transfer her from Peshawar to the specialized pediatric intensive care unit at AFIC was correct and timely. The specialist treatment that she has received at the AFIC has had the beneficial effect of stabilizing her condition”, the spokesman said.
It was agreed by the panel of Pakistani doctors and international experts that Malala will require prolonged care to fully recover from the physical and psychological effects of trauma that she has received, ISPR said.
“It is expected that in due course of time she will need repair/replace of damaged bones of the skull and long term rehabilitation including intensive neuro rehabilitation. It was the view that if Malala was going to be transferred overseas to a center which could provide the required integrated care then it should be during this time window whilst her condition was optimal and before any unforeseen complications had set in”, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that “Malala’s family was consulted and their wishes were also taken into consideration. Accordingly, the panel of doctors recommended that Malala be shifted abroad to a UK center which has the capability to provide integrated care to children who have sustained severe injury.”
Pakistan has arranged with the UAE for a specially equipped air ambulance which will be used to transfer Malala to the UK. In order to provide continuity of care, an Army intensive Care Specialist will accompany Malala on her flight.
All expenses including transportation of Malala by specially equipped air ambulance and treatment abroad will be borne by the government of Pakistan, the spokesman said.
At this juncture we must wish her good luck, full recovery, rehabilitation and a safe return to Pakistan.
Sir, are you willing to introduce her again in this environment where her killers will waste no time in finishing their job. It has been estabilished that the state cannot offer protection to anyone, let alone a girl of global notoriety like Malala. Her best option now is to continue life abroad.
I do hope the decision to shift Malala to U.K. was right. The medical board news better. I pray to God for her speedy recovery so that she can carry forward her mission in spreading peace throughout the world.
