PTI denies Imran refused to accompany PM on Malala visit

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary Shafqat Mehmood has rejected the government’s claim that PTI Chairman Imran Khan refused to pay Malala Yousufzai a visit. According to a private television channel, Federal Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira requested Imran Khan on behalf of Prime Minister (PM) Raja Pervez Ashraf that they should visit injured Malala together. Imran Khan excused himself from accepting the invitation holding the stance that he had already inquired about Malala Yousafzai’s health by paying a visit to Peshawar. Khan stated that he had also met her family members. At this, Federal Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira proposed that if he did not want to go with the PM, let any other PTI leader to go with him in order to give a good message.
Mehmood, while negating the government’s claim, stated that Khan was unable to accompany the PM since he was in Turkey for three days on the Turkish Prime Minister’s request. He further clarified that before leaving Khan had paid a special visit to Peshawar to meet Malala at the hospital where she was under treatment at the time. He met the family, offered assistance and prayed for her early recovery. Later in a press conference he denounced TTP for this cowardly attack on a young girl.
