Fifteen trainers and four master trainers from eight DISCOs on Thursday successfully completed the Adult Learning Training course under USAID’s Power Distribution Program. U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Director for Punjab, Ms Gail Spence visited the Lahore Electrical Supply Company (LESCO) regional training center to congratulate the trainees. She distributed graduation certificates and delivered computers and multimedia equipment as part of U.S. efforts to support modernization in Pakistan’s power sector.
Ms Spence emphasized U.S. Government support for rehabilitating the energy infrastructure in Pakistan, “We continue to build partnerships with the Pakistani power sector and this training will significantly enhance the capacity of Pakistanis working in the power sector to serve their fellow countrymen.”
The four and a half year USAID Power Distribution Program was announced by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2009 as part of American efforts to support the government of Pakistan in reforming the power sector and mitigating the current energy crisis. This program helps DISCOS improve their commercial performance and reduce losses, increase revenues and improve customer services by introducing new technology and improved work practices.
