AIOU to introduce new programmes to empower people

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will soon launch a number of skilled-based programmes to empower people in rural areas to earn their livelihood. This was announced by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi in a certificate distribution ceremony of the first batch of ‘gardner’s training course’ arranged by the Department of Agricultural Sciences, AIOU.
While addressing to the function, he said the Deans of relevant faculties have been assigned to prepare necessary courses and syllabus for the programmes.
Accordingly, the Central for Instructional Design (CID) set-up at the university’s main campus will convert the printed courses with CDs to facilitate the students, he asserted. Sufficient funds for undertaking these programmes will also be made available.
Dr Sangi instructed the academic staff of the department of agricultural sciences to prepare and launch some basic courses of agricultural at level one, two, three, Matric and Diploma level ie soil and land preparation, Veterinary Science, Livestock farming and others.
Dr Sangi said that all great people in the world got success only on the basis of their hard-work. He said that hard-work was the key to success. He urged the students to be dutiful, honest and earn your livelihood by hardworking and become the upper hand because the upper hand was the hand that gives while the lower hand is the hand that takes.
Our country was facing scarcity of the skilled gardeners, on the instruction of the vice chancellor to start some courses for the gardeners to strengthen their capabilities for overall agricultural development, the four-month duration training course was started for the gardeners in April, Dean, Faculty of Science, Prof Dr Nowshad Khan said. Total 27 gardeners were enrolled in the first batch of gardeners training course out of which 20 have completed the said training.
At the end the Sangi gave away certificates to the gardeners who have completed their training.
