Robbers nibble away holes in motorway fence

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Inspector General (IG), Zafar Abbas Lak has said that effective measures are necessary to control crime and incidents of fence cutting on the motorway from Peshawar to Lahore and Faisalabad.
He gave these comments in a high level meeting on law and order situation of motorways, which was attended by Headquarters Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Nisar Soroya, Motorways DIG, Abbas Hussain Malik, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Logistics, Abbas Ahsan and NHMP Director Finance, Muhammad Shamim Khan.
The Motorway DIG in his briefing informed that the thieves had cut the fence from Peshawar to Swabi at different points, due to which animals could cross over the motorway easily and posed a danger to passing traffic.
The NHMP IG ordered officials to enhance the security measures on M-1 as there was a problem of law and order due to the cut down fences from Peshawar to Swabi.
During the meeting the DIG of motorway police was directed by Lak that locals should be recruited as guards for the safety of the fence. It was decided that locals would also be taken on board and some people would be recruited to watch the fences along the highway and to help in crime control.
The NHMP IG said that the local administration and the motorway police should hold a meeting with the local Jirga’s from time to time to curb any type of crime on the motorway. He said that safety of the commuters on motorway would be ensured in all respects.
