“It is deplorable to learn about the assassination attempt on Malala Yousufzai, a 14 year-old child, and appalling to see the Taliban proudly claiming responsibility for such an act. This is on no grounds justifiable or acceptable that an innocent child be targeted for any reason. As we all know, she is no ordinary child but the youngest children rights activist and winner of the National Peace Award,” said Syed Jawaid Iqbal, Chairman Moderates, a private sector think tank strengthening tolerance, interfaith harmony and democracy.
“The propagators and silent supporters of such acts are those who hate the idea of progress, better education and emancipation of women. There is dire need to fight the mindset that is involved behind these malicious operations. We should take Malala’s dream further ahead, dream of a country where education prevails and oppression crumbles,” he added.
