The doctors recruited through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) during the strike of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) have not received their salaries of three months. According to sources, during the strike of the doctors, many young doctors were recruited on the basis of PPSC tests while they were still awaiting results, though there were no approved seats for them. The Health Department had sent a summery about the salaries of the doctors to the Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mian Shahbaz Sharif, the sources said. The sources revealed that in some teaching colleges, approved seats were less than the doctors recruited. Thus the matter of their salaries was still pending and the authorities were looking for a way to resolve the issue.
When contacted, Punjab Secretary Health, Arif Nadeem said that majority of the doctors recruited during the days of the YDA’s strike had not joined their duties.
