Divisional Level in full swing


The fifth level of the Punjab Youth Festival 2012 is in full swing all over the province as competitions in this divisional level were held in around nine sports events on Tuesday.
The sports competitions included arm wrestling, Kabaddi, cricket, athletics, badminton, tug of war, football and weightlifting.
In Lahore Inter-university Festival Bodybuilding was held in which musclemen of five universities took part and in 65 kgs weight class, Mohammad Junaid of University of Veterinary and Health Sciences was adjudged the winner while Najam Ali of University of Central Punjab was runner-up. In 75 kgs class, Abdullah Veterinary Sciences was winner and Zulqarnain Zabir of Punjab University was second and in 75-plus kgs weight Nauman Khan of Punjab University was winner while Mohsin Munir of Government College University was runner-up.
Similarly, Inter-collegiate Lahore Division Table Tennis competition held at Punjab College Sporst Hall, Lahore Kasur, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib took part and in the final Punjab College defeated Govt College Nankana Sahib 3-0. Waheed of Punjab College beat Azhar of Nankana 2-0 and in the second match Punjab College’s Abid Ali beat Irfan of Nankana and in the third match Abid moved past Haider Ali of Nankana to get win for his college.
In Athletics 100 metre race, Ali Tarrar of Lahore got the first position whereas Mohammed Taqi of Sheikhupura was second. In 400 metres race, Mohammed Shafiq of Lahore was declared winner while Mohsin Ali of Nankana achieved second position and in 800 metre race, Mohammed Ishaq of Lahore was first while Nankana’s Rana Tariq was second.
In 1500 metres race, Lahore’s Majid Ali won the first and Mohammed Akmal of Kasur was second. In shotput, Kasur’s Mohammed Mushtaq achieved first position while Sharafat of Sheikhupura got second position. In the Long jump, Lahore’s Mohammed Yunus achieved first position and Kasur’s Shafqat Ali was second. In Javelin throw, Lahore’s Mohammed Yasir bagged first place while Syed Atif of Kasur was declared second.
In Arm Wrestling, 70 kgs category, Junaid Sultan of Lahore achieved top spot while Rana Asad of Nankana got second positions. In -85 kgs, Lahore’s Usman Butt attained first place and Waseem Khan of Kasur was second. In 85-plus kgs, Nabeel Bajwa of Lahore was the winner and Faheem Mukhtar of Kasur was second.
In the non-sporting like painting held at Punjab University Old Campus Hall, four universities took part and luck favoured Mohammad Naveed Hussain of Punjab University while Saba Islam of the same institute was placed second and Hina Asghar of Lahore College for Women University was third. Three of the participants were declared fourth in the event and they are Samra Liaqat (Education University), Iqra Faheen (LCWU) and Ahmed Sajjad (PU).
In all 31 events were contested in the nine divisions of the province in which around 819 players displayed their talent and 220 won their competitions.
In Rawalpindi 44 took part in four 9individual events and 11 won their competitions, karate, taekwondo and cricket events were contested by 120 players at Gujranwala and 20 got the honour.
At Faisalabad in the cricket volleyball and badminton events 29 had the luck in their favour out of 116 participants and at Sahiwal eight individual and team events were contested by 139 players and 58 earned limelight. Multan was the most activie division where 224 took part in six events and 58 reached the top and similarly Dera Ghazi Khan got 176 involved in bench press, athletics, cricket, billiard, wheel chair, table tennis and badminton events and 44 got through all the hurdles.
