Blind man wins ‘best teacher’ award

Shamas-ul-Zia, a blind teacher at the Government Institute for Slow Learners, Vehari has been declared the best teacher. Shamas who topped in the masters exam of the Special Education Department of Punjab University (PU) and a recipient of a gold medal was appointed a teacher by the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) who during the short span of time earned the title of the best teacher. Shamas also stood second in the written test held by the PPSC for the posts of educators. Head of the institute, Rehana congratulated him on his achievement. The Blind Alliance Secretary Information, Malik Nadeem Aslam and patron-in-chief for special students in PU, Dr Waqar Chaudhary congratulated Shamas for this distinction and said that blind people were equally better citizens in all disciplines provided they were treated at par with normal people.
