A special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday to investigate the sources of income of Sehba Musharraf, wife of former president Pervez Musharraf.
Judge of the special ATC Rawalpindi, Justice Chaudhry Habib-ur-Rehman heard the petition filed by Sehba Musharraf regarding the freezing of the retired general’s accounts and other assets including the Chak Shahzad farm house. Previously, the special ATC issued the directives during the hearing of a petition against the freezing of the former president’s assets. During the hearing, Sehba Musharraf’s counsel, Advocate Ilyas Siddiqui in his arguments said that Musharraf had “gifted” the Chak Shahzad farm house to his wife two years ago.
In response, the FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar Ali inquired as to why Musharraf was still registered as the owner of the farm house in the Capital Development Authority (CDA) records if he had “gifted” it to his wife.
Furthermore, the FIA prosecutor added that the former military ruler had been declared an absconder and possessed a total of 16 bank accounts, out of which seven were joint accounts.
After hearing the counsels’ arguments, the court issued a directive calling to investigate the sources of income of Sehba Musharraf and adjourned the hearing until October 20. Sehba Musharraf had filed the petition in September 2011, seeking a stay on the court’s order to confiscate the properties and freeze the accounts of her husband in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case. She said that the orders against her husband declaring him an absconder and attachment of his properties be withdrawn or recalled and the attached property should be released to the petitioner.
