At the end of the second round of this three days golf team competition between Indian Golfers from Delhi Golf Club and Pakistani Golfers competing under the team label, “Together We Golf”, the Lahori golfers swayed the whole game in their favour. They virtually outclassed the tired oldies of the Indian team by winning all seven matches, that were contested in the second round, at the historic Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course. Going into the final segment of the competition that is due to be contested today (Sunday) at the Gymkhana Golf Course, the Together We Golf Team accumulated a total of ten points over two rounds as against Indian Teams four points.
At the start of the second round, yesterday, the Indians did express considerable glee about playing at the Gymkhana Golf Course and were hopeful of a fairly balanced result but as the contest proceeded and the teams moved towards the closing holes, noticeable was the element of drained energy in these skillful golfers and one felt that a continuous stretch of two 18 hole outings had begun to take its toll. Even accomplished players like Ashok Singh, Ashwani Luthra, Man Mohan Singh, Maj Gen (r) KMS Shergill and Bubble Suneja were chipping and putting without the winning spark.
That however should not take the credit away from the performance of our own golfers, who played consistent golf , never straying from the fairways and demonstrating total command and control over their accurate hitting. It was this consistency that helped them to have total ascendancy over their opponents. The winning pairs for the home team were, Sardar Murad Khan and Maqbool A. Babri, Shoaib Bokhari and Imran Miraj, Lt Col (r) Raja Asif Mehdi and Lt Gen (r) Sabahat Husain, Asad Amin Sheikh and Moeen Salahuddin, Amir Mehmood and Mian Asad Hameed, Asad I. A. Khan and Abbas Ali Khan, Asad Alam and Mrs Sameea Javaid Ali. The final round will be contested at the Gymkhana Golf Course, today with tee off set for 8. 30am.
