Rawalpindi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Saqib Zafar has said that no negligence on the part of officials concerned would be tolerated during the upcoming five-day anti-polio campaign that will start on Oct 15.
The DCO said that strict monitoring of the campaign would be carried out to make the campaign a success. “No one would be allowed to shirk duty in the campaign,” he added.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting held to review arrangements of the upcoming anti-polio campaign.
The meeting was attended by Administrator Rawal Town Saif Anwar Jappa, Administrator Potohar Town Talat Mehmud Gongal, Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal, District Officer (DO) Health Dr Khalid Randhawa, EDO Education Qazi Zahoor-ul-Haq, DO Social Welfare Malik Shafiq Awan and representatives of teaching hospitals, NGOs, Population Welfare department and other departments.
EDO Health Dr Zafar Iqbal Gondal and DO Health Dr Khalid Randhawa briefed the meeting about the arrangements of the anti-polio campaign.
They said that a target to vaccinate 708,000 children under the age of five years has been fixed for the campaign.
Participants were told that 1,397 mobile teams would be constituted to make door to door visitations to vaccinate the children. Special vaccination centres would also be established in 258 health vicinities like teaching hospitals, Tehsil Headquarters’ Hospital, Rural Health Centres and Basic Health Units in the district.
They said that 85 teams would be constituted to perform duties in this connection on transit points, the airport, railway station, public parks and wagon and bus stands. Around 267 Area Incharges would be deputed to supervise the campaign at the union council level and 52 Zonal Supervisors would monitor regions of four to five union councils to make this campaign a success.
Saqib Zafar directed the Health department to make arrangements for announcements in mosques, particularly in rural areas with the cooperation of the Auqaf department to inform the parents of children regarding the importance of this campaign.
He said that no one would be allowed to create trouble for the teams. The police department had been directed by the DCO to lodge FIRs against elements that tried to disrupt the campaign.
“This is a national cause and the desired targets will be achieved at all costs,” he added.
