Taking notice of Pakistan People’s Party leader Raja Riaz’s remarks that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif holds dual nationality, the Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to both men for appearing in court in the dual nationality case.
The notices have been served for October 17.
On Wednesday, Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz alleged that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had dual nationality and urged the Supreme Court and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to probe into the matter.
The apex court, under the constitutional clauses, has already suspended memberships of several parliamentarians who held dual nationalities.
Other assembly members suspected of being dual nationals are currently under scrutiny by the Supreme Court.

  1. It seems Shahbaz Sharif does not have dual nationality. Perhaps, Raja Riaz made a stupid allegation. Look at how cleverness of Iftikhar Chaudhry. He has taken notice immediately to vindicate Shahbaz Sharif and embarass Raja Riaz. The most important matter relating to Shahbaz Sharif is the question of his MPA seat which petition is lying pending in Chaudhry's drawer since several years.

  2. There are not many countries which allow dual nationality individuals to hold public office. Each country has its specific needs, for instance India does not allow dual nationality for its citizens. India has recently introduced its equivalent to Pakistan origin card but dual nationality is still not allowed.

On the other hand developed and affluent (rich) countries don't mind people acquiring their nationality after they have met certain criteria which continue to be amended. UK Border Agency is bringing new strict and stringent rules to filter out people from India and Pakistan so as to allow a limited number of economically competent individuals to immigrate to England.

The countries like US, UK, Canada, Russia etc. who allow immigrants their nationality whilst they retain the nationality of the country of their origin will not accept these individuals as their ambassadors or head of state.

PAKISTAN'S situation is very peculiar. Money was stashed away from Pakistan in certain foreign countries and nationality gained to have safe havens outside. As long as Pakistani politicians have safe havens outside, Pakistan's national interests will continue to be compromised.

THEREFORE PAKISTAN MUST NOT ALLOW THE HOLDERS OF PUBLIC OFFICE RETAIN NATIONALITY OF ANOTHER COUNTRY WHEN THEY HOLD PUBLIC OFFICE.
