Register all FIRs lodged by parents

KARACHI
The Standing Committee of National Assembly on Human Rights has directed all police stations in the country to necessarily register FIRs for children reported lost or missing by their parents. MNA Riaz Fatyana, chairman of the committee concluding the deliberations of its members, along with other stakeholders, on the issue said that complaints made by parents and other caretakers of the concerned children must be promptly taken up by the police.
“Registration of FIRs must be followed by necessary investigations and search of the kids before any irreparable loss is caused to precious human lives,” he said.
Earlier, Mohammad Ali, representative of an NGO Roshni Foundation brought into the notice of the committee members including MNAs Dr Atiya Inayatullah, Khushbakht Shujaat, Kishwar Zehra, Sabeen Rizvi and Dr Aresh Kumar that hundreds of children are found to remain untraced due to lack of interest on part of the police.
He also referred to cases of bodies of missing children found after been subjected to criminal abuse. “This is mainly because that the report of missing children is filed in the daily diary and no FIR is registered that demands immediate investigations,” he said.
Activist Mohammad Ali Mentioned that police as a practice refuses to register FIRs as parents unable to nominate any one as the suspected abductor,” he said.
The activist mentioned that children abducted for ransom generally pertain to resourceful and influential families and hence police take no time in registering the case.
