Doctor’s associations and Punjab govt meet again

Different associations of doctors on Thursday started another round of meetings with the health officials to sort out differences on the service structure of doctors, Pakistan Today has learnt. This is not the first time such negotiations have taken place. Several other previous attempts to finalize the service structure of doctors where all cadres are satisfied have been in vain. Pakistan Muslim League –Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Ishaq Dar headed the final round of talks. However, the results of these initial talks were inconclusive because the General Cadre Doctors’ Association and the records presented by the Health Department did not match. The current session started with members from the Young Doctors Association, Pakistan Medical Association and other medical associations met with health officials in the department.
“After sorting out differences, the representatives of doctors will meet me and the health secretary,” advisor to CM on health Khwaja Salman Rafique told Pakistan Today. Commenting on the progress on the service structure, he said the pyramid of promotion has been converted into cylindrical promotion to accommodate the general cadre doctors. He was hopeful that this would be the last of such meetings.
