HEC extends last date for students of Balochistan, FATA

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has extended the last date for submission of application forms for HEC reserved Medical and Engineering seats for the students of FATA and Balochistan till 8th October 2012.
HEC has also relaxed the criteria for entry test and now the candidates having 65% marks in FSc can appear in the test date. The above mentioned decision has been taken in view of the demand of the students belonging to far flung areas of FATA and Balochistan.The test would be conducted through National Testing Service Pakistan (NTS). The test will be now conducted on 14th October 2012 in four cities i.e. Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar.
According to the details, HEC has announced reserved seats in the fields of medical and engineering for the students of Balochistan & FATA on open merit on self-finance basis. The 29 medical seats have been reserved in the medical colleges of KPK and around 60 seats in different engineering universities including UET Lahore, UET Taxila, UET Peshawar, MUET Jamshoro, and QUEST Nawabshah.
The distribution of seats is on 60:40 ratios for the students of Balochistan & FATA respectively. This step would enable the students of Balochistan and FATA to get opportunity of equipping themselves with professional education at the leading higher education institutions of the country.
Since its inception, HEC has paid special attention towards promoting higher education sector in the Balochistan province. The main initiatives include special scholarship schemes for the faculty and youth of Balochistan, implementation of federal government‘s quota policy in award of local and foreign scholarships, establishment of well-equipped HEC regional centre at Quetta, increase in number of universities from 2 to 7 including first Women University of Balochistan and launched special projects for the development of basic infrastructure at higher education institutions of the province including labs, class rooms, seminars rooms, labs, transport facilities, digital libraries, video conferencing facility etc.
