The price of eggs has increased by more than 40 percent in the market during the last two months, raising the price from Rs 70-80 to Rs 100-108 per dozen. As winter is setting in, the price of eggs is likely to increase with each passing day as its consumption increases in the cold weather. Eggs are used in a variety of food products from biscuits and cakes to pasta and mayonnaise and are considered an important ingredient for homemade dishes. Consumers complained that the authorities concerned, were least bothered to check the sharp increase in egg prices and have given a free hand to the poultry industry to fix the prices on their own.
