District Level developing interesting encounters

As the Punjab Youth Festival 2012 is squeezing to competitions among the winners of the lower levels, the District Level is developing interesting encounters among towns and localities of the different parts of the province.
On Wednesday, there has been competition in 22 districts in both sports and non-sporting events and in all 65 sporting games and were held and around 44 non-sporting events were contested. A total of 2630 players took part in these events and 754 won their competitions with flying colours.
In Lahore around 763 took part in 20 events and 60 won their matches and as the general public events developed interesting competitions, the events of school and colleges gave colour the event with hockey badminton, chess and cricket matches coming to an end.
In Chess Iqbal Town and Data Ganj Bax Town qualified for the final and in the title game Iqbal Town’s Amir Karim moved past Murtaza Faisal of Data Ganj Bax Town while Shahzad Agha of Samanabad Town was placed third.
In cricket tape ball Aziz Bhatti Town beat Ravi Town by 30 when the winners made 110 runs and claim the title. Earlier, in the first semi-final Aziz Bhatti Town beat Nashtar Town. The losing side got 43 runs and Aziz Bhatti Town reached the target for the loss of six wickets and in the other semi-final, Ravi Town beat Samanabad Town. Ravi Town achieved the target of 45 runs with three wickets to spare.
In football, Nashtar Town beat Wagha Town 3-0, Aziz Bhatti Town beat Shalimar Town 2-1, Iqbal Town moved past Gulberg Town on penalty shoot-out 4-3, Samanabad defeated Nashtar Town 2-0 and Data Ganj Bax Town outclassed Ravi Town 3-1. In karate 55 kgs weight class, Mohammad Hafeez (Ravi Town) defeated Mohammad Usman (Data Ganj Town), in 65 kgs Waqar Wakeel of Ravi Town beat Data Ganj Bax’s Mubashar and in 65-plus kgs Asghar of Ravi Town overpowered Junaid of Data Ganj Bax Town.
In the badminton event held at Iqbal Park Sports Complex, Iqbal Town beat Wahga Town 2-0, Ravi Town beat Data Ganj Bax Town 2-0, Shalimar Town defeated Aziz Bhatti Town 2-0, Iqbal Town outplayed Samanabad Town 2-0, Nishtar Town beat Gulberg Town 2-0. In the Semi Final, Ravi Town beat Nishtar Town 2-1, Iqbal Town defeated Shalimar Town 2-0.
In non-sporting events of dress designing Nadia Rafiq of Samanabad was the winner while Faiza Naseem of Gukberg and Shazia Khawar Shalamar Town were second and third while in cooking Khadija Qudsia of Iqbal Town took the top honour, Zainub Bibi of Shalimar Town was second and Sidra Urooj of Iqbal Town got the third place. Malik Tahir Sarfraz, secretary Social Welfare was the chief guest and gave the prizes to the winners.
The Painting competition that was held at Government Home Economics College for Women under the supervision of Dr Samia Kalsoom in the Art Department of the college, the staff of the Art and Design department organized the event. The Essay Writing competitions were held at Punjab College for Women Gulberg. The Intermediate students were given the topic, Her Fard hay Millat k Mukaddar ka Sitara and for the topic given to the Degree level students was Muslim World and the Cross road. Iram Amjad and Ruqayya Shamim won the positions in English while Rubina Tahir and Uzma Aziz were the winners in writing the Best Urdu essays.
In other parts of the province like Rawalpindi there were 322 participants in 12 event and 58 were the winners and at four districts of Gujranwala there were 333 participants and 129 winners and in Hafizabad alone 147 contested in three events – of cricket, naat khani and qirat – and 68 got the honour.
In Faisalabad’s five districts active participation was seen in 23 events where 869 contested but 324 reached the podium and here Faisalabad city was the most energetic in the festival activities, witnessing 528 participants in three team and two individual events while two general categories and 199 were the winners. Similarly, 306 took part in events at Sahiwal and 158 and at Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan 18 and 19 showed their skills in individual events and four and seven were the winners.
In Mandi Bahauddin, District Population and Welfare Department organized Healthy Baby Competitions in which the winning babies at tehsil level were given the gifts and prizes. At Hafizabad: DCO Sohail Ahmed Khan distributed the cheques among the winners in Dress Making and Cooking competitions.
