The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday declared termination orders of 192 contractual teachers issued by the Attock Education Department null and void. Hearing the contempt of court plea filed by the teachers, Justice Mamoon-ur-Rasheed reprimanded Executive District Officer (Education) Attock Umar Farooq for terminating services of the educators despite the court’s restraining order. Counsel for the petitioners, Malik Saeed and Tanveer Iqbal, contended that despite the issuance of stay order by the court, the teachers were removed from the service from back date. STAFF REPORT
The court ordered the Education Department to allow the teachers to perform their duties and warned to mend its way and follow rules and regulations. The ‘law of the jungle will not be allowed to prevail,” it added
The court directed the EDO to submit a detailed reply in the teachers’ regularization case by October 9, otherwise the contempt of court proceedings would be initiated against the department.
