Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain Monday said that with passing of the Sindh Peoples Local Government Ordinance 2012 a new leaf should be turned over, and a new chapter of progress and development should begin by ending uncalled-for opposition of the local government system, a statement said.
He also praised President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, and elected representatives of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the PPP for making tireless efforts in the preparation of this ordinance and getting it passed from the Sindh Assembly.
Altaf Hussain said that the local government system was the true essence of democracy, and its opponents were against ‘government of the people’.
He said that the developed countries of the world were moving ahead on the path of peace, progress and prosperity by adopting the local government system.
Altaf said it was the need to of the hour to use this system in the larger interest of the public and for determining new ways of making progress.
