Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, while talking on the occasion of presentation of annual report of the Provincial Ombudsman Directorate (POD) on Monday, praised performance of the directorate.
He said it was because of the efforts rendered by this organization that complaints pertaining to provincial organizations were being addressed and people were getting inexpensive justice.
The governor said the problems especially of the widows, orphans, children and pensioners were also being resolved by several initiatives taken by POD. The annual report was presented by Provincial Ombudsman Asad Ashraf Malik.
Dr Ishrat said that the role of ombudsman was very important for eradication of injustices from the society.
He stated that because of the setting up of its regional offices, dwellers of the far-flung areas of the province were also getting justice at their doorsteps. The governor also praised the personal efforts on the part of Asad Ashraf Malik.
Presenting the overall performance of the organization, Ashraf Malik said that from January to December 2011, some 5,347 complaints were received and of these 2,366 were approved for regular investigation and 1,271 were referred to concerned officials for necessary action.
