The management of the PAF cinema has been running from pillar to post trying to find the reason for banning Indian films as the Air Force high-ups maintain a mum over the issue, Pakistan Today has learnt.
The PAF authorities in the provincial metropolitan issued a notification, banning screening of Indian films, to the administration without mentioning any reason. “I’ve written to the authorities to let me screen the movies which are UK films, as I have ‘No Objection Certificates (NOCs)’ from the cultural ministry and the Punjab censor board. I’ve incurred huge losses due to the ban and the authorities have given no reply so far,” Nadir Latif the manager of the PAF cinema said, adding that he had already spent Rs 20 million on renovating the cinema, besides having to purchase each print for Rs 300,000.
This ban is an anomaly because no other cinemas in the metropolitan are facing similar bans at the moment and the officials are not willing to explain reasons behind this order. The PAF high-ups from Lahore refused to disclose the intent of the ban, saying, “We have communicated only that which has been directed to us from the headquarters. No official version can be given. We have already communicated the order to concerned personnel in writing and no reason has been mentioned there,” a senior official from Lahore said.
The administration has explained to the authorities, in sufficient detail, the difference between a film imported from India and one purchased and distributed from the UK. The NOCs obtained by the cinema administration have been shared with the scribe and they cleared the said movies for screening in Pakistan. The NOCs are available for Raaz3, Barfi and Heroine all of which have been banned.
