Rawal Dam water gradually getting dangerous for health

The water in Rawal Dam, one of the main sources of drinking water supply for the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, is getting dangerous for the health of its users day-by-day, says Dr Shahzad Manzoor, a specialist in abdominal and liver related diseases at Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi.
Dr Shahzad said that the catchments of Rawal Dam are filled with poultry farms and cattle barns and streams falling in the dam were bring with them wastes of poultry, human beings and cattle, besides bringing residues of dead animals. All the wastes pollute water of the dam that is supplied to the residents of Rawalpindi and Islamabad after so-called filtration, he said.
Dr Shahzad suggested that the potable water supply of the twin cities should be checked in laboratory every now and then to ensure provision of safe drinking water to the residents.
