Punjab Youth Festival 2012 enters 33rd day of intense activity

The Punjab Youth Festival 2012 has entered into its 33rd day since it started on August 26 and now it has its third level at its concluding stage and with the activity at its half way stage it has already created the world mark of people’s involvement in the different activities.
The first two levels of the Festival, the neighbourhood and village and the Union Council levels yielded a record number of participation of over 3 million people and now the third stages, the tehsil level is developing challenging competitions among the participants as the talent being unearthed with every passing day of the festival is producing interesting contests.
The tehsil level is now seven days old and a total number of participants in the whole province has reached 184,401 in just sports events and there were 55,366 winners while the participants in the Population Welfare Department-organised activity, the healthy baby competition produced a gathering of more than 1400 children with 210 winning the title of healthy baby at 67 centres of competitions.
At Rawalpindi, healthy baby competition was held at two centres where 15 children were shortlisted and six of them got the prize. At Sargodha out of 74 nine were winners, at Gujranwala 12 were lucky were from among 78 participating children, in Lahore division 123 took part in the event and 15 won the title and similarly, at Faisalabad 101 took part and 12 were the winners.
In the sports events of the festival, Lahore saw 6147 people taking part in events including cricket, athletics, badminton, tug or war, arm wrestling, kabaddi, hockey, weightlifting, bodybuilding, football, hockey, chess, billaird etc and 2334 youngsters and teams won their competitions.
In Shalimar Town, Cricket TB events, Union council 19 beat Union council 46 by 21 runs. Union council 16 defeated Union council 19 by 6 wickets. In Cricket Hardball, Union council 18 beat Union council 22 by 28 runs. In Chess, Union council 22 beat Union council 36, 1-0. In Hockey, Union council 36 defeated Union council 46, 2-0. In Athletics, 100 metres race, Union council 46’s Tahir Khan bagged first position while in 200 M’s , Rizwan Ali from Union council 46 won the race. In the Volleyball Final, Union council 21 thrashed Union council 20, 2-0. The score was 25-23, 25-11. In Basketball, Union council 18 beat Union council 46 by 23 points. In Badminton final, Union council 18 beat Union council 16, 2-0. Shahmeer Iftikhar , Mohammad Irfan and Hafiz Asim were the selected players. In Table Tennis, Union council 22 beat Union council 36, 2-0. In the Arm Wrestling, Union council 46 defeated Union council 26, 2-0. In Aziz Bhatti Town, Cricket HB, Union council 3’s Pasban XI beat Union council 5 Firebacks XI by 1 wicket. Union council 71’s Panjmeer XI defeated Union council 67’s Tajpura XI by 1 run whereas Union council 2’s Chernal XI beat Union council 11’s Bahtti XI by 1 run. In Football, Chung Khurd won over Tajpura 1-0. In the second match, Afshan beat Shaheen 3-0.
In Iqbal Town, Cricket TB, Union council 112’s Sabzazar XI beat Union council 124’s Sultan K XI. Union council 110’s Awan town defeated Union council 149’s Raiwind. In the Billiard, Union council 113’s Wakeel beat Union council 111’s Naveed, Union council 120’s Aoun Abbas defeated Union council 116’s Haris, Union council 112’s Faheem was the winner against Union council 118’s Mohammad Abbas, Union council 122’s Mohammad Nawaz was declared winner against Union council 119’s Mohammad Rafique while Union council 117’s Mohammad Shehzad won the competition from Union council 110’s Taseer Abid.
In the Healthy baby competitions held at Cantt, Mohammed Ali was declared first, Fawad Hassan won the second position whereas Mohammad Umer Farooq attained third position. Dr. Farzana Saddar was the Chief Guest on this occasion of Healthy Baby Contest.
Meanwhile, active participation was also seen in the whole of Punjab as Faisalabad and Multan remained enthusiastically involved in the festival activity. At Faisalabad 7300 and at Multan 7879 took part in the events and 2912 and 1281 were the winners respectively at both the centres.
Similarly, Sargodha saw 1017 winners from among 2513 participants, at Gujranwala 6416 took part in all the individual and teams events and time favoured 1104 people. The district of Tobe Tek Singh registered the gathering of 1180 people and 489 got to the top while the Faisalabad city alone had 4858 taking part in different categories of events from their eight towns and 2147 won the events. Sahiwal was also showed its great enthusiasm as 3319 participants saw 1317 winning from among them. Bahawalpur also remained involved in different events through 3826 participants and 1205 won out of those and at Dera Ghazi Khan 2326 had 216 winners.
