Instead of apologizing, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has validated his stance on the Steel Mills case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said on Thursday. A three-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the contempt of court case against the interior minister. Malik’s lawyer, Azhar Chaudhry told the court that his client was not in the country.
Azhar requested the court to adjourn the hearing for one week. At this, the chief justice said Malik had himself asked the court to hold the hearing on Thursday. Malik submitted a written letter in the Supreme Court according to which he had not apologized for his actions but defended his stance. The court adjourned the hearing until October 1.
