Three out of four provinces have already reverted to the old LG system whereas till recently Sindh was also practicing the same. Nonetheless, by promulgating ordinance SPLGO-2012 recently, the law already passed by Sindh Assembly was bulldozed by PPP government. As a result, there is wide protest and resentment throughout province over it.
But the role of right-hand man of former military dictator General (retd) Musharraf, Danyal Aziz, who is also a former chairman of NRB, almost for the last 2-3 years, has remained highly objectionable and regrettable in Sindh. He, with the help of former Nazim of Sukkur Nasir Shah, is trying to lead processions and public meetings in favor of Musharraf’s LG system in upper Sindh. Last year, when PPP govt promulgated two ordinances by introducing dual LG system in Sindh, there was complete strike in protest in Sindh on Aug 13, 2011, but Danyal Aziz was continuously trying to add fuel to the fire by leading processions in favor of Musharraf’s LG system in Sukkur. Nonetheless, I had advised him through my letters printed in various English dailies that he should launch his campaign in the rest of the three provinces. But he prefers focusing on Sindh only which is a sensitive province. The peaceful and law abiding people of Sindh are of the view that Danyal Aziz is deliberately creating chaos in Sindh by leading processions and holding press conferences.
Before it is too late, I appeal to President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Asharf and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to ban Danyal Aziz’s entry into Sindh to ensure peaceful conditions here. On behalf of the people of Sindh, I also appeal to Chief Justice Supreme Court of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry to take note of highly objectionable activities of Danyal Aziz.
