‘Why can’t we have a slaughterhouse like Lahore?’

Residents of the federal capital have expressed grave concern over the lack of a slaughterhouse in Islamabad.
While talking to agencies, the citizens said that the meat was brought in from the neighboring city to be sold in the federal capital, adding that the product was unreliable because the whole process was not transparent. They said there should be a slaughterhouse in Islamabad and an authority should be put in place to check the quality and hygiene levels of the meat.
Muhammad Naveed, a resident of G-8 Sector said that he had to go to some big super store to buy good quality meat that was too costly. If the civic authorities had built a slaughterhouse in Islamabad, people would have been able to get good quality meat at normal rates, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that a meeting in this regard was held between a Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Faisal Sakhi Butt with the business community the other day. Butt said during the meeting that the bureaucracy was a big hurdle in the construction of a slaughter house in the federal capital.
He further said that Islamabad was under the total control of the bureaucracy, which had no interest in the problems and hardships being faced by the citizens.
The residents of the capital demanded of the authorities concerned and the city management to construct a slaughter house in the city at the earliest.
