Ibrahim Ismail Chundrigar remembered on his death anniversary

Pakistan’s sixth Prime Minister Ibrahim Ismail Chundrigar was remembered on his 52nd anniversary on Wednesday.
Ibrahim Chundrigar was born in 1897 in Ahmedabad. He started practicing law in 1920. In the 1937 elections, he was elected as a member of the Bombay Legislative Council on All India Muslim Leagues’ (AIML) ticket. In 1938 he was elected as the Deputy Leader of AIML in the Legislative Assembly. He served as the President of Bombay Muslim League from 1940 to 1945. . After the independence of Pakistan, Chundrigar was appointed as the Minister for Trade and Commerce by M.A Jinnah. After his stint as a minister, he was appointed as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan. Chundrigar also served as Punjab and N.W.F.P governor between 1951 and 1953. In August 1955, he assumed charge of the Federal Law Ministry and served in that capacity till August 1957.
After Suhrawardy resigned, Sikander Mirza asked I. I. Chundrigar, to assume the charge of the Prime Minister. Chundrigar swore in his cabinet on October 18, 1957. However, his tenure as Prime Minister lasted for less than two months.
