Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain has condemned acts of violence on the day of “Love Prophet Day” and called on people to come forward to make the country liberal secular.
Addressing a ceremony attended by religious scholars, party workers and members of civil society on Wednesday, Hussain said that armed men looted banks, resorted to ransacking of public and private property, besides setting ablaze cinemas and a Church on the Day of Love.
“What kind of Ishq-e-Rasool it was,” he said referring to the killings and plundering during the protests.
Altaf said handful of ignorant extremists had taken the whole nation hostage and they would have to be rescuing it from their shackles. He also lashed out at the feudal lords saying they were exploiting the masses and we must get rid of them.
He demanded of the United Nations and United States to take action against the culprits and make sure that such acts are not repeated.
Altaf Hussain said the nation should not be forgetful of its future as country was passing through critical times. “We have to save the country from threats,” he said.
“We are playing in the hands of enemy by pushing the country towards destruction without keeping in view the consequences of destructive activities, Altaf Hussain said.
He said how the followers of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), who gave message of mercy to the entire world, could loot and plunder their fellow beings.
Lamenting bloodshed and mayhem in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar and Kashmir on last Friday, he said that what kind of Ishq-e-Rasool it was when dozens of innocent people were killed and hundreds of them were injured.
“The miscreants under the guise of religious rally mercilessly and unscrupulously looted public and private property for their vested interests,” said the MQM chief.
Pakistan is confronted with grave internal and external enemies while different sections of our society are clashing with one another, he said.
