Thousands of empty wooden crates were reduced to ashes due to a fire caused by unknown reasons in a warehouse here late Sunday night.
According to details, the fire erupted in Dalmia Colony of Gulshan-e-Iqbal No. 10 of the city. Thick smoke, which engulfed the neighborhood in no time, suffocated the dwellers of the area who informed the fire brigades about the incident.
A couple of fire fighters rushed to the scene and started efforts to bring the fire under control.
The locals blamed that the damages would not have been so big if the firefighters had arrived in time.
It was yet to be ascertained as what might have caused the fire outbreak. Firefighters did not rule out arson behind the unfortunate incident.
It should be mentioned here that there were three open-air warehouses containing piles of saleable empty wooden fruit crates on a piece of land in the middle the densely populated neighborhood in the Dalmia area.
It is not yet known as to who might have granted permission for the setting up of the warehouses containing such inflammable merchandise without any official check and balance.
