Strong bar is a sine qua non for independent judiciary, says CJP

A 13-member delegation of the Khanewal District Bar Association headed by its President Rana Jaffar Ali Khan and comprising of other office bearers called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary on Monday in the Supreme Court Building, Islamabad. Talking to the delegation, the CJ said, “Strong bar is a sine qua non for independent judiciary and where there is a strong bar, the institution flourishes”. He further added that a lawyer being a professional, always remained in the pursuit of the legal knowledge and he should work hard to assist the courts so as to provide expeditious and inexpensive justice to the litigants at their doorsteps. Admiring the role of the legal fraternity in the Lawyers’ Movement, he added that the movement was the struggle for principles. The legal fraternity, during the days of the movement, struggled constantly for constitutionalism and independence of judiciary and their dream was materialized due to the constant struggle. The members of the Khanewal Bar also appreciated the struggle and efforts of the CJP during the days of the lawyers’ movement which was a unique movement in the global history.
