Senate committee summons details of appointments in PSO

Special Committee of Senate analyzing illegitimate job inductions in ministries and public departments has summoned details of salaries, privileges, competence, progress of Pakistan State Oil employees that were inducted during last 5 years.
The meeting of the Special Committee Tuesday held under chairmanship of Senator Jahangir Badar.
During the meeting, Secretary Petroleum Waqar Masood, Managing Director PSO Naeem Yahya Mir and Chairman Board of Directors briefed the committee about the details of inducted employees during last 5 years.
The committee was told that over 2 thousands employees are working in the PSO, while it has capacity of 2300 employees.
The MD PSO told the committee that new job vacancies are not required and said over 50 percent employees of the PSO belong to Sindh province, because the oil projects are mostly present in Sindh.
He ensured the committee that local persons will be inducted for petroleum projects in the Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
He said there is not any provincial quota allocated for job inductions in the PSO and all inductions are made on the basis of merit.
Upon which, Senator Zahid Khan said according to the notification of the establishment all public organizations are bound to implement provincial quota.
Then the committee directed the higher authorities of the PSO to submit details of salaries, privileges, competence, progress of PSO employees that were inducted during last 5 years.
It was decided in the meeting that a 3-member sub committee of the special committee would visit head quarter of PSO in Karachi to analyze the record of job inductions.
The MD PSO revealed before the committee that he holds dual nationality, upon which committee stated that it has no objections over the matter.
He said that if the Parliament makes legislation and approves law to ban dual nationality holder from working in public institutions then he would resign from his position.
