Attorney General (AG) Irfan Qadir said Tuesday Election Commission (EC) was an independent institution and Supreme Court (SC) could not issue any direction to it.
This was said in a letter addressed to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhar ud Din G Ibrahim by AG in dual nationality case.
As per media reports, AG had said in clear terms in his letter to CEC that that the SC decision in dual nationality case be appraised on constitutional touchstone and it should be determined if EC was subordinate to constitution or SC decisions.
He further stated that he had expressed his reservations in regard to SC verdict in dual citizenship case in this letter. As per SC decisions EC could not perform its function in line with SC directives, he added.
On the other hand the EC in its reply to AG said letter written by AG had been received and all the points raised therein would be reviewed in next meeting.

  1. AG is on record for such stupid comments. He just need to confront SC / judiciary on all count. He defends the defenders as prosecutors instead of assisting the court as per his mandated responsibility….one of these days he may be kicked out 100 % from all cases as done in case of Riaz Malik contempt case….AG has exposed himself as being biased of judiciary from the beginning….& people are not fool.
