Convicted officers and lower staff of motor branch of Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department Rawalpindi are still working on lucrative posts in the department. According to sources in the E&T department, an enquiry was started against Excise and Taxation Officers (ETOs) along with motor registration authorities, a clerk working on own-pay scale and other employees on the surfacing of some fake registrations due their negligence. One ETO was freed on the basis of insufficient evidence against him while five years service of two ETOs was deducted under the PEDA Act. But these ETOs were still working in two districts of the Punjab. Moreover, a clerk of the department was also convicted and his five-year service was also deducted, but he was given a post in a factory in Rawalpindi on own-pay scale, the source said.

Some other employees of the department were also found guilty and their annual increments were deceased but they were retained on their posts, the source added.
The sources revealed that the reason behind the blunder was that the punishments of most of the employees were not written in their service records.
When contacted, Excise Director Suhail Ahmed said that it was the duty of the ETO Administration to write the convictions on the employees’ service books, while, the ETO Administration could not be reached to obtain his view on the issue.
