Strong bar is a sine qua non for independent judiciary: CJP

A 13-Member delegation of Khanewal District Bar Association headed by its President Rana Jaffar Ali Khan and comprising other office bearers called on the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary Monday in the Supreme Court Building, Islamabad.
Talking to the delegation, the Chief Justice said, “Strong bar is a sine qua non for independent judiciary and where there is a strong bar, the institution flourishes”. He further added that a lawyer being a professional, always remains in the pursuit of the legal knowledge and he should work hard to assist the Courts so as to provide expeditious and inexpensive justice to litigants at their doorsteps.
Admiring the role of legal fraternity in Lawyers’ Movement, he added that the movement was the struggle for principles. The legal fraternity, during the days of movement, struggled constantly for constitutionalism and independence of Judiciary and their dream was materialized.
The members of Bar also appreciated the struggle and efforts of Chief Justice of Pakistan in the days of lawyers’ movement which is unique in the global history. The delegation informed the Chief Justice that the movement for rule of law, supremacy of Constitution and independence of judiciary instilled a new spirit and provided a common platform to lawyers to cooperate with one another for the larger good of the community. They also discussed with the Chief Justice, issues and matters pertaining to administration of justice and apprised the Chief Justice of their problems such as fixation of visit schedule of Consumer, Banking, Drug and other Courts at Khanewal. The Chief Justice assured them to take up the matter with concerned authorities.
The delegation also assured the Chief Justice of their full support and cooperation. They emphasized that the administration of justice needs his bold and inspiring leadership and motivation to deliver justice to the public at large. They said that the public have reposed great confidence in the judiciary.
The delegation also invited the Chief Justice of Pakistan to visit Khanewal District Bar.
The Chief Justice conveyed his gratitude, extended his thanks and assured to visit them in suitable time. Sabir Baloch for training and international exposure of parliamentarians.
