Ex-MPA Malik Atta among five dead in targeted killings

At least four persons including an ex-MPA were killed and several others were injured in fresh spate of target killing in different areas of the city here on Saturday. According to police, unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at former MPA Sindh Assembly Malik Atta in Mehmoodabad Gate area injuring him critically and fled the scene. The injured was rushed to Jinnah Hospital for treatment where Dr Seemi Jamali confirmed his death. Violence erupted in Mehmoodabad after death of the Malik Atta.
In Orangi area unknown armed men gunned down one person and fled the scene. The body was shifted to hospital for postmortem where identity of the deceased was yet to be confirmed. The police recovered bullet riddled and tortured dead bodies of two unidentified youths from Garden area. Police said that the deceased were kidnapped earlier and gunned down after brutal torture and their bodies were dumped in the said area.
Meanwhile, firing incidents continued in different areas of the city including Chamra Chowrangi, Lyari, North Nazimabad, Sohrab Goth, Shah Faisal Colony during which more than 10 persons were reported injured.
The police during a raid arrested a suspect identified as Asghar Shah, involved in murder of two people while his crony managed to flee. Arms were recovered from the possession of the detained culprit. SSP South Asif Sheikh said that the police conducted search operation and raids in different localities of the city and arrested 34 law violators from Boat Basin police station jurisdiction, 12 from Preedy street, 18 from Kharadar, 8 from Nabbi Buksh, four from Civil Lines, two from Eidgah, five from Defence, three from Gizri and one from Baloch Colony areas. The detainees were involved in ransacking, looting and setting public properties, shops and banks on fire.
