Police registered more than 6,000 cases against bigots involved in violent protests and vandalism on the occasion of ‘Youm-e-Ishq-e-Rasool’ while Special Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) also sent 36 persons to jail on 14-day judicial remand on charges of riots and indulgence in vandalism during their protest on Friday against the blasphemy movie produced by US film maker.
Per details, police have registered cases under different articles of the terrorism act on charges of attempted murder and violence against men in uniform. The culprits include those who pelted stones at police deployed in red zones, robbed banks and shops and set police pickets, vehicles and motorcycles on fire outside Governor House, Garrhi Shaho, Shimla Paharri and other localities of the city.
The angry protesters who wanted to approach US consulate clashed with heavy contingent of police for severe hours. Police resorted to fire tear gas shelling on Mall Road, Egerton Road and in front of Lahore Press Club.
The agitated crowed overturned containers placed to block the road leading towards the US consulate in the provincial capital and set on fire the government property including police pickets at several places.
